National Pecan Day

Apr 14, 2020

The little ones might end up starting a typhoon of internet outrage.

Bad Naming Conventions for Pecans

The U.S. Pecans Organization governs how we describe pecans. They put together a rather handy web page covering all the names for different sized pecans. If a pecan is between 3/16” over 2/16” (4.8mm over 3.2mm), then it is officially referred to as a Midget Pecan. Fun fact, Midget Pecans are not the smallest pecans. Honestly that might be the most outrageous part of this situation. If you are going to go full throttle with a "no-no" word, at least have it make sense.

An Internet Outrage Beast Hungers

There is a wave of users on social media, ignited by bloggers, that are always looking for the next outrage. Scandalous news is the perfect jumping off point for them to boast their opinions. And wild, but somewhat true, headlines are what bloggers dream out; they need clicks in order to make money. Sorry, facts, but you're just not sexy enough. They need the juice to keep the user clicking. And the U.S. Pecans Organization calling small pecans Midgets is ripe for the blogger picking.

There's only one thing stopping them: their attention span. Social media moves fast and swift, and there is always something else to be outraged about. As long as the cycle continues, the U.S. Pecans Organization could keep going unnoticed. Are you going to nark them out? I hope not. We sure as hell aren't going to say anything. Assassinating people and organizations online is boring, usually cruel, and ultimately accomplishes nothing of value. Also it's way too funny to let this keep going, because each day that passes is another day that the social justice warriors didn't bother to notice this injustice.
